What is holiday insurance? Holiday insurance is a policy which covers you against any factor which may cause the cancelation or interrupt your holiday. In case your holiday is cancelled or interrupted then you will be reimbursed for any loss or damage of property or baggage, medical expenses and travel delay.
If you are a holidaymaker it is very important that you take up holiday insurance. It can be very costly if you do not purchase holiday insurance. When purchasing your holiday insurance you should ensure that your policy has a 24-hour assistance number. You need to ensure that you keep the number in a safe place so that you do not lose it.
There are three main categories of holiday insurance which are:
1. Delays, curtailment and cancelation
Cancelation- if you had booked for a holiday but you were not able to make it due to the following factors (personal injury, illness, death of the individual or family member, adverse weather condition, terrorism, airline strikes, bankruptcy, sudden unemployment, jury duty, floods or other natural calamities) then you will be reimbursed the amount you had paid.
Interruption- This occurs when the holiday had to be cut short due to any of the following reasons (death or sudden illness of the holidaymakers, adverse weather conditions, airline strikes, terrorism, bankruptcy, sudden unemployment or any external factor outside the control of the holiday maker. When this happens then the holiday maker will have to be compensated.
Delay- In case of flight delay then the holidaymakers will be reimbursed any costs incurred for food, accommodation and clothing.
2. Medical, Health and Care
This category of holiday insurance will cover holidaymakers for any medical and dental treatment costs which they may incur during the period they are on holiday. The policy maker is usually required to pay with his own money first and then he is reimbursed after a period of 7-10 days.
Air flight accident
This policy covers dismemberment or death during an air flight only.
Common carrier
This policy covers death or dismemberment in the course of taking public transport such as plane, ferry, bus or taxi, where you have paid fare.
3. Personal Effects
Baggage loss/delay- if any of your baggage gets stolen, lost, or damaged then this holiday insurance policy will ensure that you are reimbursed.
Personal Items- If any of your credit cards, cash, passport, driving license, and any other personal document gets lost then this holiday insurance policy will ensure that you are reimbursed.
